Elijah Craig Small Batch Review

Elijah Craig Small Batch is the bourbon I’d recommend to someone who wants to move beyond the entry-level stuff, and my Elijah Craig Small Batch review is a thumbs up. It’s rich, warm and good value.
What is Elijah Craig Small Batch?
It’s made by Heaven Hill in Bardstown, Kentucky, bottled at 47% with no age statement, and aged in new charred American oak. The name comes from a Baptist minister who is often credited, probably wrongly, with inventing bourbon.
It used to carry a 12-year age statement, and now it doesn’t, but the whiskey is still good.
Elijah Craig Small Batch tasting notes
Vanilla, caramel and cinnamon on the nose, with some nutmeg and a hint of smoke. It’s warm and spicy.
On the palate it’s rich and smooth, with caramel, baking spices, vanilla and a bit of oak. The finish is long, warm and a little peppery. It has plenty of body, and it doesn’t feel thin.
The best way to drink Elijah Craig Small Batch
A short pour, a few drops of water and no hurry is the best approach. It’s a very good Old Fashioned and a solid Manhattan, and it’s strong enough to stand up in cocktails.
How much is Elijah Craig Small Batch, and is it worth it?
About £40 for 70 cl. At 47% that’s good value, and it’s one of the best step-ups from the cheaper bourbons. Prices drift, so check the retailer link on this page for today’s Elijah Craig Small Batch price before you buy.
