Powers Gold Label Review

Powers Gold Label is the Irish whiskey that people in Dublin drink, and my Powers Gold Label review is a happy one. It’s spicy, peppery and a bargain for about £24.
About Powers Gold Label
It’s made at Midleton by Irish Distillers (Pernod Ricard), and it’s a blend with a good dose of pot still whiskey, bottled at 43.2% with no age statement, matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The pot still element gives it a spicy, oily character that’s very different from the lighter Irish blends.
It’s the traditional Irish style at an everyday price.
Powers Gold Label tasting notes: nose, palate and finish
Spice, honey and orchard fruit on the nose, with a hint of pepper and some vanilla. It’s warm and a bit oily.
On the palate it’s smooth and spicy, with honey, apple, black pepper, vanilla and a little oak. The finish is medium to long, warm and peppery. It has a lot more character than most blends at the price.
Powers Gold Label: neat, with water or in a drink
Neat, with a splash of water, or in a hot whiskey. It’s a great Hot Toddy base, and an Irish coffee with Powers is very good. It also works in a highball with ginger ale.
Is Powers Gold Label worth the money?
About £24 for 70 cl. That’s very good value for a 43.2% blend with pot still character,. Prices change, so treat the figure above as a guide for Powers Gold Label and check the link on this page for the current cost.
Powers Gold Label alternatives
Redbreast 12 is the single pot still step up, Green Spot is the other pot still choice, and Bushmills Black Bush is the sherried blend.
Who should buy Powers Gold Label?
People who like a spicier Irish whiskey, and anyone who wants good value.
