Eagle Rare 10 Review

Eagle Rare 10 is one of the best-value bourbons around when you can find it, and my Eagle Rare 10 review is basically a recommendation. It’s smooth, complex and cheaper than it should be.
About Eagle Rare 10
It’s made at Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, Kentucky, which is owned by Sazerac. Eagle Rare is a 10-year-old bourbon, bottled at 45% and aged in new charred American oak, and it’s a single barrel bottling. It’s often treated as the affordable end of the distillery’s sought-after range.
In the UK it’s easier to find than in the US.
Eagle Rare 10 tasting notes: nose, palate and finish
Toffee, orange peel and honey on the nose, with a bit of leather, some herbs and a hint of candied nuts. It’s rich and complex.
On the palate it’s smooth and sweet, with caramel, orange, vanilla, a little spice and some dry oak. The finish is long, warm and a bit dry. It’s balanced and elegant, and it’s hard to find fault with it.
Eagle Rare 10: neat, with water or in a drink
Start neat, add water a drop at a time, and bring in ice only if you must. It’s too good for mixing, though it makes an excellent Old Fashioned if you want to be generous. It’s a good bourbon to share.
Is Eagle Rare 10 worth the money?
About £41 for 70 cl. For a 10-year-old single barrel bourbon at 45%, that’s excellent value, and it’s the one I’d recommend to most people. Where to buy Eagle Rare 10: start with the retailer link on this page, then compare it with your usual shop.
Eagle Rare 10 alternatives
Buffalo Trace is the cheaper sibling, Elijah Craig Small Batch is a good alternative, and Four Roses Single Barrel is the other great-value choice.
Who should buy Eagle Rare 10?
Anyone who wants a really good bourbon without paying silly money.
